Growing Responsibility Program

The GR8 (pronounced ‘great’) – Growing Responsibility – Program has been offered to local grade-eight students since 2012.

GR8 was developed by Brantford Police Service Constable Philip Minotti, with assistance from Constable Charmaine Pelletier and Constable Keli Corpse, all former elementary school resource officers. Like the K.I.D.S. Program, Constable Rebecca Seibert currently delivers GR8 education.

We are proud to recognize T.I.C.K. Board member, Lori Henderson, a retired elementary school principal, who conceived the program’s unique name – GR8-Growing Responsibility.

Designed to enhance students’ skills and knowledge, GR8’s curriculum prepares youth for new challenges as they progress into high school. During the four-week program, delivered in one-hour sessions, students learn about the following topics:

Consequences of Addiction – the effects that drugs have on your body and how to recognize if a friend is experimenting with drugs

Youth Criminal Justice Act – common offences youth commit and how a criminal record can affect your future

Harassment – on-line and social media awareness and cyber-bullying

How to Make Healthy Choices – (final lesson) students are given scenarios after which the pros and cons for each situation are discussed.
